Philippines Now Offering Green Roofs and Green Walls
In light of the current “Green Revolution” where businessmen have become more environmentally-conscious, the Philippines is now offering “Green Roofs” and “Green Walls“, or environmentally-friendly roofs and walls to contractors and builders. With this new technology, Philippine Real Estate Developers can now contribute to saving our planet by using these non-harmful materials in constructing their buildings and houses.
I stumbled upon this very new and interesting concept in the recent Property Section of Inquirer dated last August 8, 2009. Indeed, it is very encouraging to see that capitalists are now joining the fight to preserve our planet from the global warming threat. In fact, “Green Architecture” is becoming more resounding nowadays, and the Green Roof and Green Wall products will definitely fall under this new category.
Here in Philippine soil, one of the brands of Green Wall and Green Roof offered here is named Elmich. According to product manager Ms. Josephine Munoz, the Elmich Green Roof is made of 100% recycled plastic, and it can be partially or totally covered by plants. So what are the advantages of a plant-covered roof? That means less rain water runoff, less energy consumption due to cooler insides of the house, less air pollution since plants breathe in carbon and air particles, less noise as plants provide a sound buffer, and less harmful effects from UV rays.
Meanwhile, the Elmich Green Wall is similar to the Green Roof in the sense that you can also put plants in them. It has grids where you can plant herbs or vegetables in between, so it also offers the same advantages like better house insulation, noise reduction, and sunlight absorption.
You can contact the Philippine distributor of Elmich to know more about their Green Roof and Green Wall. Both are distributed by Supersonic Manufacturing, so feel free to visit their website at http://www.supersonic.ph.
